Curly Flat Chardonnay 2021

Description

95+ Points – Campbell Mattinson

Curly Flat claims Macedon Ranges is the coldest vineyard site anywhere in Australia, so it’s little wonder they chose to focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir when they established Curly Flat in the early 1990’s.

Curly Flat’s Chardonnay now comfortably sits among the top echelon of Australian Chardonnay and we’ve recently welcomed the brilliant and very limited 2021 vintage release. A product of a “dream growing year”, the 2021 Curly Flat Chardonnay was made from three distinct vineyard blocks, which has delivered another pristine, intensely flavoured and beautifully structured Macedon Ranges Chardonnay.

“95+ Points. Curly Flat delivers the goods. There’s nothing wan about this release, it has body and it has flavour and it probably even has soul. Pristine peach, nectarine and citrus flavours are served hand-in-glove with cedarwood oak. There’s more than a little texture here, silken and grippy at once. There’s a smoked wheat character here too, perhaps even some crushed fennel, though in reality it presents as one seamless gorgeous lipsmacking whole. Super gear. Tasted: Dec22 13.2% alc. Screwcap. Drink: 2024 – 2030+”- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

“95 Points. Ah Curly Flat chardonnay, you good thing. You tease with tangy fruit all citrusy and white nectarines all spiced up then the palate tantalises with scrumptious leesy flavours and sweet cedary oak. The final flirt is a line of fine, pure acidity holding everything neatly in place. Pretty classy seduction. 13.2% alc. Drink: 2022 – 2033. Screwcap”- Jane Faulkner, winecompanion.com.au.
